Job Summary
We are looking for a Laser/Optical Research Engineer with a strong background in high-power lasers, beam shaping, beam coupling, and power degradation studies. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working in an optics lab, adhering to proper safety standards, and managing complex optical setups. This role requires an individual who can work autonomously and has a thorough knowledge of laser engineering, with additional skills in software and electronics integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Laser and Optical System Design: Develop and optimize high-power laser systems, including beam shaping and coupling techniques for long-distance transmissions.
- Power Degradation Studies: Conduct research and experiments to understand and mitigate power degradation in laser systems.
- Lab Management: Independently manage optical setups using Thor Labs and other industry-standard components, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
- Software Integration: Develop and integrate software solutions for laser control and data analysis using MATLAB, COMSOL, LABVIEW, Python, and C++.
- Electronics Collaboration: Work on designing charge controllers, laser power adapters, and other related electronics projects.
- Photovoltaic Applications: Apply laser illumination techniques to solar cells and photovoltaic systems, enhancing energy conversion efficiency.
- Project Leadership: Lead and manage projects from design through implementation, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality results.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of research, experiments, and project progress.
Qualifications and Skills
- Education: PhD or Master’s degree in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience in laser/optical research and development.
- Technical Skills:
- Expertise in high-power laser systems, beam shaping, and beam coupling.
- Hands-on experience in an optics lab, managing setups and adhering to safety standards.
- Proficiency in MATLAB, COMSOL, LABVIEW, Python, and C++.
- Knowledge of hardware-software integration for laser systems.
- Experience handling lenses, fibers, and optical components.
- Sufficient knowledge in electronics to contribute to related projects.
- Preferred Skills:
- Experience with laser illumination on solar cells or photovoltaic systems.
- Language Skills: Excellent knowledge of English, both conversational and documentation levels (C1 or higher).
